So you need a California Vehicle Safety Systems Inspection. formally know as Brake & Lamp.
PLEASE NOTE: This section is under construction till complete.
California come out with the all new Vehicle Safety systems inspection as a product of Assembly Bill 471 which was approved by the Governor Sept 28th 2021. Brake and Lamp Inspections sunset Sept 27, 2024 at midnight. The Safety inspection is very through and takes several hours to perform including a disassembly of your vehicles braking system for component measurement and inspection. The link below will take you to the Bureau of Automotive Repair “find a shop locator”. I am including this link as a starting point so you, the consumer, can see what stations are out there, trust me I wont feel bad if you choose another facility for your inspection needs, just want to show what options are available :-)
So, you have chosen a facility to have your vehicle inspected at, Awesome, the next step prior to calling anyone for the inspection is to check to see if your vehicle has open safety recalls, the link below will take you to CarFax and allow you to enter your Vin number and check to see if your vehicle has any open (non-completed) recalls. Vehicles with open repairable safety recalls will automatically FAIL the vehicle safety inspection. Vehicles with recalls that have a “no remedy available” will not fail a vehicle safety inspection at this time.
Below are links to public access technician manuals, videos etc pertaining to California Vehicle Safety Systems inspection. I am including this information so you can see whats actually going to happen when the vehicle is inspected.
If you have made it this far, its time to call what ever inspection station you have chosen for the inspection. If you decide to contract with NorCal Auto for your inspection please be aware the $500 inspection fee (pass/fail) must be payed in full prior to your appointment, NO EXCEPTIONS. Your vehicle needs to clean and clear of all trash, personal items, items of value, etc! I will not inspect a “rolling trash can”. NorCal Auto does not offer California Vehicle Safety Systems Inspection at this time.
